Dear Friends,
Welcome to the
website of the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United
Nations. We hope you will find the information contained herein of
interest to you. Before you continue to explore the site, you
are invited to review a short history of the Holy See's
presence at the United Nations by clicking
here.
In the context of the 40th anniversary of
the Holy See’s Permanent
Observer Mission to the UN, on 1 July 2004, the
General Assembly
adopted a Resolution, by acclamation, confirming
and strengthening the rights of the
Holy See as a Permanent Observer in the UN.
The Holy See now enjoys, among other things, the right to participate in
the general debate of the General Assembly; the right of reply; the
right to have its
communications issued and circulated
directly as official documents of the Assembly; and the right to
co-sponsor draft resolutions and decisions that make reference to the
Holy See.
On 17 July 2010, the Holy Father appointed
a new Permanent Representative to the United Nations:
H.E. Archbishop
Francis A. Chullikatt, until then Apostolic Nuncio to Jordan and Iraq
(pictured at left). Archbishop Cullikattt succeeds Archbishop
Celestino Migliore, who was nominated Apostolic Nuncio to Poland in June
2010.
Thank you for visiting our
site, and may God bless you!
